Congratulations Pine Creek for your 2015 International Thespian Festival Main Stage Performance election!
This TONY Award-nominated hilarious, roller skating, musical adventure about following your dreams despite the limitations others set for you; rolls along to the original hit score composed by pop-rock legends Jeff Lynne and John Farrar (Electric Light Orchestra). Based on the Universal Pictures' cult classic movie of the same title, which starred Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly, Xanadu is hilarity on wheels for adults, children and anyone who has ever wanted to feel inspired.
Xanadu follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time - the first ROLLER DISCO! (Hey, it's 1980!) But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds. You'll want to keep the music in your head and Xanadu in your heart, forever. (www.mtishows.com)
This is the highest production honor in high school theatre! Every year approximately 40 schools are screened and only five schools in the country are selected to perform at the LIED center for the Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. We are among those five.
A cast and crew of about 35 people will travel to the University of Nebraska, Lincoln for the week - long International Thespian Festival this June. This is a very expensive trip to take. While the ITF reimburses schools for a portion of their expenses, it is the expectation that the school, the district, and the community will help to fund the troupe’s trip as they represent their community at an international level.
The troupe will incur conference fees, room and board fees, travel costs, transportation of the set expenses, professional flying effects rental and install expenses, musician and adult staff travel and compensation expenses, program printing, rental and royalty fees, and various other incidental charges.
